ENKEL JUMPER 2.0
Share
Tipp Topp jumper from 2017. I made this version with single strand of Sandnes Line yarn, and the contrast color was a yarn quality from Manos del Uruguay.
Enkel Jumper 2.0 is the follow-up to the Tipp Topp Jumper from 2017 and 2018. Before that, I also had a similar design, but with long sleeves.
I do think it’s absolutely wonderful that so many knitting enthusiasts from all over the world are making this simple jumper. Thank you so much—it means a lot to me 🫶🏽
I would also say that, of all my knitting patterns, this would be the easiest one you can choose to make.
Before I started on this design, I wanted to create a garment that would be easy to knit, yet have a timeless, comfortable, and versatile look. I also wanted to include some simple, small and impactful details in this design.
I know that many people appreciate knitting projects that offer a quick sense of accomplishment, which is why this jumper is made with entirely in garter stitch. It’s just as suitable for beginners as it is for more experienced knitters who want a relaxing project.
This version of Tipp Topp jumper from 2018, is also made in single thread of Sandnes Line yarn. For the cotrast color I´ve used double threads Bomulin yarn from Isager.
About Enkel Jumper 2.0
Enkel Jumper 2.0 is perfect for your summer days, but I can also recommend that it is a great layered over a long-sleeved shirt on cooler days. I chose to keep the design very simple—it's made entirely in garter stitch
The shirt is worked in rounds on a circular needle before it is divided into front and back piece at the armhole openings. Both pieces are finished flat separately This creates a nice section of garter stitch at the top of the jumper, which gives a lovely effect to Enkel Jumper 2
During springtime 2023, Enkel Jumper 2.0 was on my needles.
Here’s how I assemble Enkel Jumper 2.0
Assembly of Enkel Jumper 2.0 begins with the shoulder seam. I have chosen to use grafting (Kitchener stitch) for this, as this method creates a nice, smooth transition from shoulder to shoulder. I prefer to keep the stitches on the needle or transfer them onto a stitch holder.
The short sleeves are worked from the top down. I picked up stitches around the armhole using the main color. Do this after you’ve finished the shoulder seams.
Since the short sleeve on the Enkel Jumper 2.0 is worked from the top down, it’s easy to adjust the sleeve length as you go. The sleeve is knit in a contrasting color. By the way, I really enjoy knitting with sharp-tipped needles.
The short sleeve on the Enkel Jumper 2.0 is also knit entirely in stockinette stitch.
The Enkel Jumper 2.0 is fun and easy to knit, and it’s comfortable to wear.
Sizes and Measurements
The pattern is available in three sizes:
- Small: Bust/hem circumference approx. 104 cm, length approx. 53 cm
- Medium: Bust/hem circumference approx. 116 cm, length approx. 57 cm
- Large: Bust/hem circumference approx. 130 cm, length approx. 61 cm
For this jumper, I chose Vesle from Solberg Spinderi, a 100% organic cotton yarn (180 meters per 50 grams) held double. If you prefer, you can substitute Sandnes Line or Bomulin from ISAGER. Here’s how much yarn you’ll need:
Small: 350 g main color + 100 g contrast color
Medium: 450 g main color + 100 g contrast color
Large: 550 g main color + 100 g contrast color
The recommended needle size in the pattern is 4.5 mm, and the gauge is 19 stitches and 26 rows in stockinette over 10 x 10 cm.
I recommend knitting a swatch to check your gauge. That way, you can easily adjust your needle size if needed to match the pattern’s gauge.
If your gauge is looser then stated, your jumper will turn out several centimeters larger than the given measurements. If your gauge is tighter, the chest circumference will be smaller. It’s not much fun to finish a jumper that ends up too big or too small, so I really recommend taking the time to knit a swatch before you start the actual jumper.
Garter stitch adds a lovely texture, giving the jumper a little something extra—even though the design itself is simple and timeless.
Tips from me to you!
My best advice is to choose colors you truly love. In that way, you’ll get a lot of wear out of your jumper. You can also change up the look by using different types of yarn. I’ve used cotton, linen, and viscose myself to create different styles and uses.
If you want to knit the Enkel Jumper 2.0 as a shorter or longer jumper, it’s easy to adjust the length by:
-
Knit fewer or more rows before you split for the armhole opening, and working back and forth on circular needles.
If you want to make the sleeves longer than the pattern suggests, you can:
-
Simply knit a few extra centimeters beyond what’s indicated in the pattern. There are no increases on the sleeve, so it will keep the same circumference from where you pick up the stitches to where you finish the sleeve.
Why I love the Enkel Jumper 2.0
What I love most about the Enkel Jumper 2.0 is just how versatile it is. It goes with everything—from shorts to skirts— and with a thin long-sleeve top underneath, you can wear it all year round. Or you could make a version for fall and winter by choosing a yarn like wool, alpaca, silk mohair, or something similar.
Several of you have sent me photos and shared your experiences on Instagram, Facebook, and by email. It’s such a joy to see all the different versions out there!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it ❤️
